Is one allowed the occasional ‘funny’ in Church ?
I cherish the memory of a certain Director of Music, a dear friend, who so arranged matters with the choir that once, on Sunday 8th September, after the Angelus at the end of the principal Mass, the choir spontaneously burst into ‘Happy Birthday to You’ to Our Blessed Lady . . . I’m delighted to say that clergy and congregation joined in !
Silly ? Probably : but at the same time, is it altogether wrong to see Our Lady primarily as a member of the family – the Mother to whom we turn for help, on whose intercession we so constantly rely, and in whose affection we find security, shelter, and strength ? I don’t altogether think so.
Happy Birthday, Mother !
