Mary of Walsingham, Mother of England.

Today is the Feast of Our Lady of Walsingham; and especially at this time, with the effect of Anglicanorum Coetibus rapidly impending, and the prospect of the Ordinariates looming, it seems to me worth remembering that Walsingham is probably the one place where there is least tension between the various different Churches
. . . because everyone is brought there by a love of Mother, and sees that as more significant than the disntinctions between them.

Certainly every Catholic who has visited the Anglican Shrine will know that they are always warmly welcomed, and made to feel fully at home there.

So : today I shall pray for ALL Walsingham Pilgrims, whatever their background, and remember with great love both the Shrines . . . and if you wonder why I use a picture of the Holy House of the Anglican Shrine, well it's because I have too many connections with it not to have it centrally in my mind, and because it's not in any case ultimately 'Anglican', or 'Catholic', or anything except 'Mother's' . . . and Mother's home is, of course, our home too.

    Thank you, Shadowlands : I have to say that I'm not sure that one can properly describe it as 'Protestant' . . . just 'not Roman' Catholic, I think ! ;-)

    Protestant, to me, means any person, place or institution protesting against the binding authority of Rome ( however that may manifest).
    Not to say I judge a person/place or institution who doth protest, ( unless 'Methinks the person doth protest too much')just wanted to explain my personal use of the terminology!!
